Biography

I was born in Poole. I knew I wanted to be a radio presenter or a rock star. I played a few chords on the guitar and sung. The sound was compared to a fog horn. Nature made the choice for me or was it the neighbours' comments!

On leaving school I worked in a large department store by day and worked my way into the local clubs as a DJ by night. One had to go and I was never good at adding up in the shop. I'm sure some people got bargains they hadn't anticipated.

My first station was radio Thamesmead in the 80s. I was once delayed getting across London on the train. I got off and phoned, the boss said do the show from the phone booth, (no mobiles then) and well play the records in from this end. Now that was weird!

Did an outside broadcast for Quay West radio's first birthday. We were live from Butlins and during the news a lady came up and asked if she could read the weather. Turned out she worked for radio 4!
